Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, has been chosen to be among 14 tertiary Institutions that will benefit from an Information and Communication Technology, ICT, initiative aimed at making benefiting institutions more competitive and modern.
This was disclosed on Tuesday when the consultant on the NNPC/SENPCO ICT Initiative, Dr. Tunde Adegbola, visited the University Management in Akungba Akoko.
Dr. Adegbola disclosed further that the gesture was part of the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility. He said that the gesture would create an enabling environment that would foster improved learning and research in the benefitting Institutions.
He added that efforts would be made to put concrete plans in place to maintain and sustain the items and facilities that would be donated and installed.
Dr. Adegbola listed items and facilities to be donated to include: fully equipped multi-purpose ICT building, specific software, establishment of computer clubs, league based national software competition where the winner(s), mentor, and Institution would be handsomely rewarded, as well as training for staff and students of benefitting Institutions.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, lauded the Initiative, particularly as it comes at a time of paucity of funds in the University. The VC said such a worthwhile Initiative would go a long way in enhancing the academic and research efforts of the benefitting Institutions.
He pledged the cooperation of the University Management in ensuring speedy take-off of the project by putting in place needed assistance
